When I'm on the floor as a dancer, what matters most to me music-wise is to feel that there is no DJ between my partner and me, no planned set, no agenda, no hiccups or brutal interruptions, just emotion flowing continuously, consistently, from one track to the other, from one partner to the other, from the beginning of the evening to its end.
All too often though at the milonga, I get extracted from this mellow state of absorption because of an inappropriate cortina or an unadvised sequence of songs. And that brings me down from the heavens of connection to the realization that the emotion I was in just a second before doesn't match at all with the cortina or the new track that the DJ just played.
As a DJ, what I most focus on is creating a lasting and coherent atmosphere, smoothly carrying my dancing guests from one side of the evening to the other, without them ever noticing time passing by or tracks sequencing each other, just emotions flowing continuously, coherently, energetically, again and again from one partner to the next...
