Sergios "Linko" Tsagkaris had always a connection with music since a little kid, as a singer, songwriter, and lyrics writer. Later in life, the tango found him and he fell instantly in love with it. His great passion for the tango music and dancing led him to play his first tandas for his close friends, however, what made him start DJ'ing in milongas was the joy in their faces as they danced to his choices. He felt that he gave energy to the dancers, and then in turn they gave him energy back. In his first gigs he received very good feedback and soon he became resident DJ in a popular weekly milonga in Athens. Now he is regularly invited to play in milongas, marathons, festivals and tango events in Athens and other cities throughout Greece. He also DJ'ed a street tango event in Mykonos island with Mora Godoy.
For Linko, DJ'ing is a serious work that demands serious attention and concentration: When he plays, his eyes and concern are on the dancefloor, and what's happening on it. After all, the pista and the dancers dictate his musical choices. His tandas are usually very consistent, as he tries to match the songs by orchestra, singer, period and sound, but on some rare occasions he's mixing up. He prefers the most rhythmic tangos of the Golden Age, and always manages to keep the energy going, alternating between the dancer's feelings as the night progresses. This comes natural to him because when he listens to the music, he feels it as if he were dancing.
Apart from playing the right tanda at the right moment, a tango DJ is also responsible for the sound itself, and that's why Linko is always on the hunt for better sound quality. The vast majority of tango recordings come from an age with limited recording means, and there is a constant process of vinyl/shellac digitizing, de-emphasizing, equalizing, remastering to clean the sound of the old recordings. Linko searches continuously for the latest cd releases to find better-sounding recordings. He also uses his own professional equipment of mixers, equalizers, soundcards, spectometers, etc to produce the best possible sound for any recording depending on the acoustics in the specific venue of the milonga.
